Jane Weaver: her new single, “Slow Motion,” is enchanting, ethereal, electronic music, with just a touch of dark wave.
Her forthcoming album, ‘Modern Kosmology,’ is out on May 19th. I’m looking forward to it, as I really enjoyed her previous offerings, especially 2015’s ‘The Silver Globe.’ ‘Don’t Take My Soul’ is one of my unofficial anthems- the soundtrack to my life, if you will. https://janeweavermusic.com/ |
Jesus and Mary Chain
Jesus and Mary Chain- YES!! Their first new album in 18 years, ‘Damage and Joy,’ is out on March 24th, and they are about to embark on a world tour, including Chicago on May 10th.
Ironically, the venue I am seeing them at, the beautiful, historic Riviera Theater, shares the same name as the venue that they’re playing at in Madrid on my birthday, April 30th (they’re playing at La Riviera, in Madrid). How’s that for synchronicity? I have a long love affair with the Riviera, or ‘the Riv,’ as the locals call it, as well as a longtime relationship to the 'Mary Chain'. Stay tuned for both an album, and a concert review from ‘the Riv’, coming soon! http://thejesusandmarychain.uk.com/ |
Steven Severin
Once a Banshee, now a…ambient artist? Steven Severin, formerly of Siouxsie and the Banshees, has just released Vril Harmonies, a six-track ambient album, and offered his song ’23 Wounds of Julius Caesar,’ which is available free on the Ides of March (appropriately,) or as a name-your-own-price download. Severin is also planning on releasing Innocence and Blood on April 15th, so lots of new music to look forward to from an amazing artist- a personal favorite! Thanks to the fabulous ‘Slicing Up Eyeballs’ for the heads up on this one!

Stonerpop: once again, fate helped me choose another cool band to highlight, as the synthpop duo from Louisiana, Stonerpop, started following me on Twitter, so I listened, and I really liked it! The Soonest and therestalk:
The Soonest and therestalk: I will use the phrase, ‘surrealist pop,’ to describe therestalk. A hint of electronica, meets a touch of Cocteau Twins. Will definitely be tuning in more to this promising act! Also, because of the Soonest briefly following this blog on Instagram (honestly, where would we be with social media) I caught wind of them, and enjoyed what I’ve heard so far. Indie, yes, and a solid act to boot. I can hear traces of the National. I’m particularly fond of ‘My Thoughts are Brave, my Words are Slow.’ As it happens, the two bands are also connected.
